On this island of Taiwan, we feel the throbbing of mountains and seas, and with our hands, create colors we believe in.
Taiwan Spectrum is a journey of the senses. Through the lens of visual art, it offers a microcosm of Taiwan’s cultural fusion, creation, and regeneration. The exhibition unfolds across three interrelated themes via sights, crafts, and sounds. Each of the three themes or spaces—True Colors of Taiwan, Lightwoven Nature, and Island Soundscape–reflects a facet of Taiwan’s cultural identity, where sound, color, and light converge to illustrate the island’s ever-evolving cultural vitality and creative capacity. The artists draw from history and engage with the present, seeking colors unique to Taiwan in an ever-changing environment. Their creations highlight the resilience and reinvention of culture. Out of this powerful cultural resilience, forged by the island’s unique geography and shifting history, has emerged a distinctly Taiwanese hybridity, adaptability, and inclusive strength.
